Faculty Professional, and Community Experiences:
Dr. Prisca Moore
- Dr. Moore took a group of 10 Carthage students and her 10-year-old son, Oscar, to Australia for the month of June. We spent the first week sightseeing in Melbourne as well as completing some Professional Development at the CERES Environmental Park and visiting two schools who are accredited as Sustainable Schools by CERES. Then we moved to Warrnambool, Victoria - a small town of about 30,000 people. The Carthage students were placed in six different schools in the area to work with a cooperating teacher and his/her class for three week. Oscar returned to Grasmere Primary School where he had attended in the spring of 2005 while on sabbatical with his "mum." We had an awesome time and the schools are eager for more students from Carthage!
- Dr. Moore completed a four-day Institute this summer at the Center for Applied Special Technology in Boston, MA. This four-day institute presented the most recent advances in addressing the diversity of all learners, focusing particularly on Universal Design for Learning. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework for designing curricula that enable all individuals to gain knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for learning. UDL provides rich supports for learning and reduces barriers to the curriculum while maintaining high achievement standards for all.
