Dr. Tracy Gartner, Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Science and Director of the Environmental Science Program, is interested in how biodiversity and environmental factors influence nutrient cycling in ecosystems. Dr. Scott Hegrenes, Associate Director of the Environmental Science Program and Assistant Professor of Biology, is an aquatic ecologist whose conservation interests include introduced species, endocrine disruption, and the loss of biodiversity.  He may be reached at (262) 551-6616 or shegrenes@carthage.edu.

Dr. Jerald Mast, Assistant Professor of Political Science, is interested in environmental values and the various ways in which these values are politically expressed by citizens and interest groups and translated into policy.  He may be reached at (262) 551-5397 or jmast1@carthage.edu.

 

Dr. Joy Mast, Associate Professor of Geography, focuses her research on forest ecology, especially with regards to disturbances and climate change. Dr. Prisca Moore, Associate Professor of Education, works with local schools in the areas of environmental and outdoor education.  She is collaborating with the Root-Pike Watershed Project to engage students in water monitoring activities and has established an Outdoor Classroom, Solar Greenhouse, and Nature Center at the Racine Montessori School as a teaching site for both Carthage and Racine students.  She may be reached at (262) 551-5976 or pmoore@carthage.edu.

 

Dr. Julio Rivera, Associate Professor of Geography, teaches Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Economic and Urban Geography.  His interests focus on the modeling of spatial problems using GIS, the assessment of urban environmental issues and the effect of different urban designs on the quality of life in these communities.  He may be reached at (262) 551-5846 or jrivera@carthage.edu.

Roberg

Dr. Jeffrey Roberg, Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science, is interested in human rights and eco-tourism.  He studies environmental politics in international relations and has led J-Term trips to Argentina, Cuba, and the Galápagos Islands, among other places.  He is currently exploring the environmental, political, and economic consequences of over-fishing and tourism on the ecosystem and people of the Galápagos Islands. Dr. Robert F. Schlack, Professor and Chair in the Department of Economics, has interests in environmental topics and related public policy issues as a teacher, a concerned citizen, and a lover of the outdoors.  His course in environmental economics emphasizes basic tools of economic analysis to understand environmental problems and evaluate alternative solutions.  He may be reached at (262) 551-5831 or rschlack@carthage.edu.

Zorn

Dr. Matthew Zorn, Associate Professor of Geography, has published research on the subjects of stream flow, El Nino, climate change, and media perceptions of environmental hazards.  He teaches courses in hydrology, climatology, and natural disasters, as well as in physical geography.  He previously was Faculty Advisor to the student environmental organization at Carthage, known as CURE.  He may be reached at (262) 551-5968 or mzorn@carthage.edu.
