The Cartographic and Geographic Information Systems Laboratory

The Geographic Information Systems and Computer Cartography laboratory went online in 1997. The Geography department designed the lab to enhance students’ ability to understand and model geographic and spatial concepts. The lab is primarily used for higher-end geographic, graphic and mathematics computing. The lab is designed for both teaching and analysis.

It has available:

  • 16 computer workstations and insturctor station
  • The network is managed using server/client model under a Windows operating system.
  • Peripheral equipment in the lab include:
    • 30 bit flat bed scanner
    • 600 dpi laser printer
    • color ink jet printer
    • 2 digitizers (one large format, one small format)
    • classroom projection system
    • document camera
    • VCR/DVD, and sound system.
    • The lab is connected to the campus network and has full Internet capabilities including access to the World Wide Web.
  • Current software operating in the lab includes:
    • ArcGIS 9 and Extensions
    • ArcView 3.x and Extensions
    • Idrisi
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • CorelDraw
    • Corel Photopaint
    • Corel 3-D
    • MicroCAM
