Heritage Scholarship

Heritage Scholarships - Spring 2008

A number of Heritage Scholarships - a total of up to $14,000 with individual awards up to $2500 - will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Any student who was enrolled in any Heritage course during Spring 2007, Fall 2007, or Spring 2008 can apply in one of the following categories:

Category 1: Textual Anaylsis - A text-based essay (including a narrative essay) written for a Heritage course. The paper should explore and analyze the meaning of a primary text that is part of the Heritage curriculum.

Category 2: Research Papers - A research paper written in Heritage. These papers will include references to primary or secondary sources.

The Heritage Scholarship Awards have two purposes:

  • to acknowledge and celebrate the high quality of student learning through the Heritage seminars, and
  • to offer an opportunity for currently enrolled students to receive substantial scholarship support.

Paper must be in one of the above two categories. Students must have taken at least one Heritage course during Spring 2007, Fall 2007, or Spring 2008; must be in good academic standing; and must enroll full-time during the 2008-2009 academic year. Students may only submit a single paper.

These awards will be in addition to any other Carthage grants and scholarships a student may receive. No student, however, may receive financial aid exceeding the actual cost of tuition at Carthage. Students not eligible for financial aid awards - for example, Lincoln Scholars - are nonetheless encouraged to apply for a Heritage Scholarship. If selected, they will receive a substantial contribution toward the cost of Fall 2008 required books and public recognition of their accomplishments as Heritage Scholars. Scholarship awards are for the 2008-2009 academic year only.

A team of faculty has established the guidelines and procedures for this year's scholarship competition. Any student who meets the eligibility requirements can be considered by submitting a paper from a Heritage course and a cover essay (click here for scholarship procedures and guidelines). Selection criteria will reflect the Heritage Program's focus and goals.

Deadline for Submissions: TBA in Spring 2008
