About the Ensemble . . .
The Carthage Choir, now in its 80th year, is believed to be the nation's second oldest touring choir. In recent years the choir has sung in thirty states and in ten foreign countries. Since 1973, the choir has taken ten European tours to Holland, East and West Germany, The Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, and, most recently, England and the reunited Germany.
The choir is directed by internationally renowned organist and composer, Michael Burkhardt. In high demand as both a choral and keyboard clinician, Dr. Burkhardt performs and teaches in churches and schools throughout the country. He holds degrees from Carthage College, Southern Methodist University, and Arizona State University.
Carthage College, an independent college of the arts an sciences affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), is located on the shores of Lake Michigan between Chicago and Milwaukee. Carthage offers programs in a variety of areas and is currently celebrating 159 years of academic excellence.
Membership in the ensemble is by individual audition.
