Wednesday, January 9: Departure from O’Hare, Terminal 1 (United Terminal) on Lufthansa, Flight 435 at 14:35 (2:35 p.m.). (http://www.ohare.com/Ohare/OhareHomepage.shtm )
Arrive Munich on January 10 at 06:10. Connecting flight is Lufthansa 3374 at 9:20. Arrive Athens at 12:50 and meet Ms. Thalia Cocconi at the airport.
Thursday, Jan 10th Athens: Arrival. Transfer from airport to your hotel, “Philippos” near the Acropolis. Orientation walk around Plaka. Welcome dinner at taverna Tetradio (tel. 210 3221753 Mr. Stefanos MENU: small cheese pie, meat balls, fried cheese-saganaki, zucchini fritter, salad, lamp in the oven with potatoes or souvlaki chicken or pork, ravani or baklava). Overnight in Athens, at Hotel Philippos.
Friday, Jan 11th Athens: Morning departure for tour on your own of Acropolis and South Slope on foot. Lunch on your own in Plaka. Afternoon visit of the Acropolis Museum. Overnight in Athens Hotel Philippos.
Saturday, Jan 12th Athens: Morning departure at 8:30am to visit of the National Archaeological Museum (reachable by metro) on your own. Optional visit to the Cycladic Museum (open until 4pm). Overnight in Athens Hotel Philippos.
Sunday, Jan 13th Athens: Morning departure at 8:30 am for visit on your own of the Agora and the Library of Hedrian. Lunch on your own. Afternoon visit of Kerameikos and Academy (open until 3pm). Overnight in Athens Hotel Philippos.
Monday, Jan 14th Athens- Sounion Morning departure at 10:00am for guided visit by bus to Vorres Museum (11:00-12:30 pm). Stop at about 13:00 pm in Anavyssos for cheese pies in the bakery and continue to Cape Sounion (14:30-15:30 pm). Possible visit of the small Greek Orthodox Nunnery of St Paul to meet with nuns from all over the world (Germany, US, Canada etc.) to get a briefing on their monastic life, their organic products. (16:00-17:30 pm). Continue on the scenic coastal road. Optional dinner in Glyfada at George Steakhouse or Vlahos at Vari (vlahika) at extra cost. Overnight in Athens Hotel Philippos.
Tuesday, Jan 15th Nauplion: Departure at 8:00 am by private bus and your guide. Short stop at Corinth Canal. Visit of Isthmia and Epidaurus. Lunch on the way on your own. Overnight in Hotel Marianna in Nauplion.
Wednesday, Jan 16th Nauplion: Early morning (8:30) departure to visit the site of Mycenae and then Tiryns with the Cyclopean walls and the galleries. Afternoon free in Nauplion. Overnight in Hotel Marianna.
Thursday, Jan 17th Nauplion-Nemea: Morning departure (8:30) for the nearby town of Nemea. Visit the archaeological site (915am-1030am). Visit two local wineries and have a tour of the facilities and learn how the local red wine, Agiorgitiko is being produced. Wine tasting (4-5 wines) and guided tour at the premises. Winery Lafkioti (27460 31000). Return to Nauplion for free afternoon and overnight in Hotel Marianna.
Friday, Jan 18th Nauplion – Corinth: Morning departure (8:30) for Ancient Corinth. Then, pass by Patras and continue towards Olympia. Lunch on the way on your own. Arrival in Olympia for dinner (MENU: cheese pie, pork in the oven with potatoes, ravani desert) and overnight in Hotel Europa.
Saturday, Jan 19th Olympia: Depart at 8:30am to drive to Olympia. Visit of Ancient Olympia. Visit the new museums, the Archaeological and the Olympic Games one (with findings from the ancient games) and the ancient site. Lunch in taverna in Olympia (at extra cost). Overnight and dinner (MENU: vegetable soup, salad, beef with hylopites-traditional pasta, walnut traditional desert) in Olympia, at Hotel Europa.
Sunday, Jan 20th Olympia – Delphi: Depart early morning (8:00) to pass by Rion/Antirion bridge, Galaxidi, Itea to reach the town of Delphi. Lunch on the way. Arrive in Arachova for overnight at Hotel Lykoria. (Dinner recommendations: Taverna Aloni, tel: 22670 32644, famous for pork chops or lamp chops or at the hotel for home cooked food)
Monday, Jan 21st Delphi: Visit the ancient oracle of Delphi and the museum. After lunch, return to Athens. (Recommended: Taverna Bacchus, in Delphi, Mrs. Loukia, tel: 22650-83186) Overnight in Athens Hotel Philippos.
Tues. Jan 22 Marathon – Brauron – Athens: Departure at 8:30 by bus and your guide to visit Vravron and Marathon, where the famous battle took place with its museum. Return to Athens in the afternoon. Overnight in Hotel Philippos.
Wednesday, Jan 23rd Athens: Free day in Athens. Farewell dinner in old town of Athens (tavern Psarras in Plaka). Overnight in Hotel Philippos.
Thursday, Jan 24th Athens -USA: Transfer to the airport and return to U.S. Lufthansa, Flight 3381, at 13:35 (1:35 p.m.) to FRANKFURT. Arrive Frankfurt at 15:40. Catch connecting flight, Lufthansa 432 which departs at 17:15. Arrive at O’Hare at 19:55 (7:55 p.m. Please note that you only have one hour and 35 minutes to catch your connecting flight. Stay together and check the departure that indicate departing flights as gates change. You will NOT have time in Frankfurt to shop. Go directly to your gate. Arrive Chicago O’Hare at 7:55 p.m.
Arrangements include:
Accommodation in Superior Tourist class hotels in Athens, Nauplion, Arachova and first class hotel in Olympia in twin and some three bedded rooms with private shower/WC, TV, heating as per itinerary for 14 overnights.
Daily breakfast buffet.
Four (4) dinners, one welcome and one farewell dinner and two in Olympia
English speaking archaeological licensed guide throughout the mainland tour (not in Athens)
Bus transportation by comfortable Pullman motor coach with all comforts and selected driver as per itinerary (except when the metro is used for visit of Kerameikos, National museum etc.)
