Meta Resources on the Ancient World

The following sources a gateways to more information on different aspects of the ancient world. As with all resources, you need to exercise critical judgment. In fact, you should apply the same standards you would when evaluating print sources. See Gene Engeldinger and Dennis Unterholzner's "How to Evaluate Scholarly Publications." For access to electronic bases that you can use to do your research, go to the Academic Information Services' (AIS) page and click on Library Resources - Locating articles. Often times you will have to sift through a lot of material to find what is germane to your topic, which we in the trade call "research", that is, searching again and again. Time consuming, yes, but rewarding.

• Horus' Web links to History Resources. An excellent resource for the study of history in general. Has its own search engine (limited to subject and theme searches.)
• Index of Resources for Historians A comprehensive list of resources for historian, including links to employment in the field of history, journals and other related areas (art, archaeology, cartography, etc.)
• Perseus Project Includes works of 27 Greek authors in Greek and English, as well as a data base of images from sites. Recently, Perseus has expanded into Latin literature, and now the user can find links to texts of major Roman authors. For the Greek sites, Perseus has the entries from the Princeton Encyclopedia of Classical Sites. 1976.
• TOCS-IN TOCS-IN archives the articles from over 150 journals of interest to classicists.
