Social Work Club

Mission

The mission of the Social Work Organization of Carthage College shall be a commitment to promote the general welfare of its membership, college, and the local community through the use of the bio-psycho-social perspective of the generalist model being taught in the Social Work Program. The Social Work Organization shall be committed to enriching student and faculty awareness regarding national issues affecting the welfare of its membership, college, and community.

What we do

Social Work Club is involved in many organizations on campus and in the community. We attempt to support campus and community activities through volunteer work and/or monetary donations.

Our activities include:

Fundraisers:

One per semester minimum
Additional fundraisers as part of service projects

Service Projects:

One per semester minimum

Past projects include:

  • Welcome Baskets for Refugee Families
  • Easter Baskets for children at a local homeless shelter
  • Fair Wisconsin campaign – campaigned in opposition to the 2006 Marriage Amendment
  • Domestic Violence Awareness Skit – performed a skit at a Domestic Violence Awareness Rally held by a local shelter
  • Holiday Fundraiser – raised money for Racine families for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays
  • Graduate School Information Session – members helped organize a graduate school information session for other social work students

Networking & Support:

Sharing Opportunities – meetings and online communication allow students to share opportunities for field placements, employment, study abroad options and volunteer work Mentorship – juniors and seniors serve as mentors for the freshmen and sophomores

The organization is open to everyone on campus regardless of major, however, voting rights are reserved for declared social work majors.
