


Majors: Economics and International Political Economy
Amanda Thoe, of Hayfield, Minn., was a Ruud Academic Excellence Scholar and graduated with All-College Honors. Ms. Thoe was recognized as the outstanding graduating senior in both her majors and received the John R. Commons Award in Economics in 2008.
She founded the Planeteers environmental group, performed in several theater productions and was a member of the Carthage Choir. She was president of Omicron Delta Epsilon economics fraternity, and was treasurer of the Carthage Democrats.
Ms. Thoe has held internships with the Midwest Dairy Association, the Oshkosh office of Legal Action of Wisconsin, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.).
After graduation, Ms. Thoe joined the Minnesota Department of Revenue as a Tax Revenue Specialist in the Special Taxes division. She works with both policy legislation and economic issues. The Special Tax division was closely involved in providing analysis and recommendations to end income tax reciprocity with Wisconsin, which is expected to generate $131 million for Minnesota in FY 2010-11. Ms. Thoe plans to continue her education at the University of Minnesota in the coming year.
