Economics

Major & Minor Requirements

The Carthage economics major is rooted in two introductory courses designed to engage students in economic thinking and demonstrate how economic thinking can be applied to a variety of issues in microeconomics and macroeconomics. The basic principles introduced in these first two courses are reinforced and refined in the trunk of the major consisting of the intermediate-level theory courses and quantitative methods.

Breadth in the major is achieved through offering a select number of upper-level electives, each of which emphasizes contextual inquiry and active learning. Elective work will often include student internships in economics and foreign study tours offered by departmental faculty.

As the capstone to their work in the major, students are asked to complete the economic seminar course, which includes a survey of the history of economic thought, and to complete a thesis approved by a faculty advisor and presented to departmental faculty and students.

Carthage offers a major and minor in economics.

Please note: Current students should follow the printed version of the College Catalog, and work with their advisors and the department chair to ensure all requirements are met.

Student Voices

"If you see a professor walking around campus, they will stop and talk to you, even if you haven't had them since you were a freshman and now you're a senior. They are genuinely interested in your success."

— Chumley Hodgson, '10, Appleton, Wis.
