A Word from the Department

Welcome!

The English Department prides itself on its enthusiastic community of faculty and students who share a love of literature, writing and creativity. Please use this website as a way of sharing with us — faculty and students of the Carthage English Department — those things about which we are excited.

In addition to bread-and-butter information (for example, the requirements for a creative writing emphasis or senior thesis abstracts), you'll find

  • Teasers for new courses, such as Professor Ali's Midnight's Children, and my J-term course on "Lost," "The Wire" and literature.

  • Candid classroom photos and student profiles.

  • Updates on departmental events, from parties to poetry readings

  • News of student internships and interviews with our alumni, who offer answers to that vexing question "What will you do with a degree in English?"

Enjoy your virtual tour of the Department and think about joining us in our brick-and-mortar settings (where we're even more in our element!)

Student Voices

"I always feel like my professors actually care how I'm doing — and more importantly, what I'm thinking about."
