Careers

Why major in English?

Students who major in English at Carthage develop skills that allow them to pursue any career that requires the ability to think critically and creatively. English students become informed and effective communicators.

Possible careers paths include writing or literature, as well as fields as varied as journalism, teaching, sales and law.

Employment of writers and editors is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. Demand for technical writers and writers with expertise in areas such as law, medicine, or economics is expected to increase because of the continuing expansion of scientific and technical information and the need to communicate it to others.
