

Each year, as a memorial to Dorothy Tolleson, dedicated teacher of writing and wife of former English Department Chair Floyd Tolleson, the English Department awards this prize to a freshman, sophomore or junior Carthage English major who has demonstrated outstanding promise in the rhetoric of the written word. The prize is in the form of a tuition credit.

Each year, as a memorial to professors M.E. Chapin, Wilma Tague, and Juanita Jones, the English Department awards three sets of prizes, in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction. All students are invited to submit four poems or a single short story or a work of creative nonfiction. Each prize carries a monetary award.
