The non paying persons were three invited speakers, and three invited high school teachers who received teaching awards. Underwood Dudley's banquet address on calculus textbooks, starting with L'Hopital's book, received rave reviews. The 128 people at the banquet included 3 invited high school teachers who received teaching awards. The three were Michael Berken (Pulaski H.S.), Susan Casper (Ashwanbenun H.S.), and William Zigmund (Green Bay West H.S.). A fourth high school teacher, Harry Geiser (G. B. Notre Dame Academy H.S.) also was honored with a teaching award, but could not be at the banquet. Ranjan Roy, Beloit College, received the 2001 Distinguished Teaching Award for College or University Mathematics Teaching. The award was presented by a former recipient of the award, Gary Britton. There were 24 contributed papers. Of these 9 were presented by students. Saturday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. there was a panel presentation and discussion, "School Articulation", organized by Fredric Tufte (UW-Platteville), Marty Schuh (UW- Manitowoc), and James Marty (Carroll College). Panel members were middle school and high school teachers. The meeting had two invited addresses besides Dudley's. John Harvey on Friday afternoon presented "Mathematics Education: Where Are We Going? Where Have We Been?" and on Saturday, Georgia Benkart presented "Algebras that go up and down". After Benkart's talk there was an Executive Board Meeting. In attendance were John Symms, Aaron Trautwine, Tony Thomas, Richard Snyder, Rick Tufte, Jim Marty, Andy Matchett, John Koker, Bhagat Singh, Kathy Muhs, Jon Kane, and Ben Collins. This was a lunch meeting, held in the upstairs room of The Abby Bar and Grill. The agenda were: - Introductions, email addresses, etc. - Minutes/treasurer's report - Governor's report - Newsletter - Review of Spring Meeting - Student Activities - Project NExT - Math contests - Report from WMC - Public information-Liaison report - Date of next exec. board meeting It was a useful meeting. Tony had very good things to say about the student talks, which ranged from excellent to superb. The students liked the banquet and Underwood Dudley's banquet address. Richard Snyder's passing the Newsletter torch to Kathy Muhs is a real milestone, and is proceeding very smoothly because of the laudable committment of both of them. The next distinguished teaching selection committee will be Ranjan Roy, Charlotte Chell, and Donald Passman (chair). The new State Math Contest Coordinators will be Linda Uselman, Steven Post, and Ken Jewel. The next meeting will be September 28, 2001, at UW- Baraboo. Respectfully submitted, Andrew Matchett
