In anticipation of Friday's opening, 'Lysistrata' director Hershel Kruger will give a special Hannibal Lecture about the play at 4:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Recital Room (Johnson Art Center 340). He will discuss the work that went into putting on such a challenging play.
Carthage Theatre presents Lysistrata Nov. 6-14.
Written by Aristophanes and directed by Herschel Kruger, Lysistrata is the third and concluding play of Aristophanes' War and Peace series.
It is now the twenty-first year of the Peloponnesian War and there seems as little prospect of peace as ever. A desperate state of things demands a desperate remedy in this comical account of one woman's extraordinary mission to end the war. Lysistrata convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace. This production is for mature audiences.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6-7 and Nov. 12-14, and 3 p.m. on Nov. 8. All performances are in the Wartburg Auditorium. It is open to all audiences.
Tickets are free to Carthage students. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at (262) 551-6661 or to reserve your two free tickets with your Carthage ID e-mail theatretickets@carthage.edu. Adult tickets are $12, student and senior tickets are $8, and group tickets are $5.
