New students were officially welcomed into the Carthage community at the New Student Convocation in Tarble Arena.

"Today, we celebrate your arrival at Carthage," said President F. Gregory Campbell. "People on campus have been anticipating your presence, and we rejoice to see you. … The fact is this is a momentous day in your lives. It is likely that, today, you are launching a successful college career. You will never be the same again."

Students also heard from Judith Schaumberg, Acting Dean of the College; the Honorable Keith Bosman, mayor of Kenosha; and Lauren Hansen, '10, president of Student Government. The Rev. Harvard Stephens Jr., Dean of Siebert Chapel, gave the invocation.

The convocation included performances by the Carthage Wind Orchestra, led by James C. Ripley, and the Carthage Choir, led by Eduardo Garcia-Novelli.

After the New Student Convocation, new students and their friends and families joined Carthage faculty and staff for the annual Opening Picnic on President Campbell's lawn.
