Student Employment
Federal Work Study
Work Study funds are allocated to the school each year and are awarded to any eligible student based on a first come, first served basis. Eligibility is
based on financial need and is reserved for those students with "high" need as defined by the institution on a yearly basis.
The following is a timeline of activities for a student awarded Federal Work Study:
January - April
Should students be eligible, his/her financial aid award will reflect the Federal Work-Study award in the amount of $2,000.
May
Students will receive a Work-Study Questionnaire and a contract to be
completed and returned to the Carthage Office of Student Financial Planning.
July-August
All students can expect to receive their work-study questionnaire and contract in July or August.
Labor Day
Students can expect to receive their work assignments during the first two weeks of classes, via their Carthage email address.
*NOTE*
Federal Work Study dollars must be earned
by the student and will therefore not be reflected on the
student's account. A monthly pay check is issued to the
student from the Business Office for the hours worked during
the month prior. It is then up to the student to endorse
the back of that check and turn it over to the burser for
credit onto his student account balance.
Because the work study funds are not reflected on the student's account
balance as anticipated aid, the student has the option of keeping the
work study funds and utilizing them for personal living expenses.
Campus Employment
ANY Carthage College student is eligible
for campus employment. Nearly every facet of Carthage has
some students helping to run it in some capacity. Once on
campus, a student can visit any prospective employer for
which they are interested in working and apply. This includes
professors, departmental offices, security, administration
offices, and student activity areas (i.e. Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center).
Campus Employment offers the same number of hours and same rate of pay
as Federal Work Study. A monthly check is issued in the Business Office
and can be used for payment on the student account balance or for personal
living expenses.
The difference between Campus Employment and Federal Work
Study is that the Carthage Office of Student Financial Planning
is NOT obligated to place students in Campus Employment.
