Why study German at Carthage?

To fulfill your language requirement.
Every Carthage student must complete two modern language courses in the same language (unless a student fulfills the proficiency requirement established by the College). German classes at Carthage are typically smaller than French or Spanish classes.

To continue what you started in high school.
Students who studied German in high school can earn retroactive credits for courses they test out of, if they pass the course they test into with a “C” or better (up to 12 free credits).

To increase your marketability.
After English, German is the most widely spoken language in Europe. Studying German can complement a major in business, economics, geography, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, education, philosophy, history, religion, political science, English, music or art.

To gain a global perspective.
You recognize the value of a deeper understanding of another language and culture in the context of your other interests. You want to apply this understanding to your pursuit of both personal and professional goals.
