The old pride is returning. Carthage football is a winner again. So are the men's and women's soccer teams and the track and field programs. All call Art Keller Field "home."
In Carthage, Illinois, when Art began coaching in the 1950s, someone had to retrieve the football from a farm field after each extra point kick. But Art understood that football was about internal strength, not external conditions. He built success from humble circumstances. By his own example, he inspired young men and led them toward maturity and goodness as grown men. He was like a father to them.
So it was only natural that Carthage would name its new football field in Wisconsin for Art. He coached here for three decades, and the crowds came to witness his glory years. He knew how to win because he knew how to lead.
After his death, Carthage embarked on a progressive renovation of Art Keller Field. That effort now needs to be brought to a successful conclusion.
Over the past decade, the stadium has acquired lights. Home games regularly are played at night, complete with halftime fireworks shows. New spectator seating with higher vantage points has replaced the old. When technology created a new type of artificial surface that closely resembles natural turf, Art Keller Field was among the first to receive it. In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the "Turtles" of Tau Sigma Chi fraternity recently contributed a new scoreboard far superior to its predecessor. Art Keller Field has become a more enjoyable place for athletes and fans alike.
Art Keller Field serves hundreds of young athletes and recreational users. Its flat, fast artificial surface makes it one of the best soccer fields in the region. Its composition track supports sterling times in the track and field program. All Carthage students enjoy access, and pick-up games are common.
For the surrounding community, as well, Art Keller Field has become a valuable resource. There is a heavy schedule of high school football games, soccer matches, and track and field events. Carthage opens its facilities and welcomes visitors as friends. The renovation of Art Keller Field will enable the College to become an even better neighbor.

Much remains to be done:
- Growing crowds mean that Carthage needs to add 2,000 new seats and replace the remaining old bleachers.
- A new press box has been constructed to satisfy NCAA requirements for post-season play at Art Keller Field.
- A new terrace by "the hill" will perpetuate a favorite student tradition and bring Redmen fans closer to the action on the field.
- New fencing and landscaping will harmonize with the beauty of the rest of campus.
- A new main entryway, with ticket booths and concession facilities, will finish the conversion of Art Keller Field into a small-college stadium worthy of contemporary standards.
