History

Welcome to the Carthage College History Department!

The History Department is dedicated to quality teaching and to the pursuit of scholarship. Our history major stresses student research and writing, class discussion, and interpretation and analysis. It has served as an excellent preparation for graduate work in history, law, journalism and the ministry, and also for teaching and careers in business.

In the History Department at Carthage, students enter into a vibrant arena created to challenge, open and develop their minds. Our courses each seek to challenge students' prior assumptions of how the world works, ideas evolve, and peoples and nations move through time and space. We work with our students to open their minds to multiple ways of understanding the world, in both the past and the present, preparing them for the future. Our professors take a keen interest in helping students develop important skills such as critical reading, writing and thinking, analysis, and public speaking.

Our goal as a department is to nurture well-rounded, knowledgeable and creative students who can succeed in any field they choose to go into after graduation.

Please feel free to contact us for additional information about our major and department. You can reach the History Department at (262) 551-5823.
