J-Term at Carthage

Registration & Information

General Information

All students must enroll in J-Term their freshman year and take at least one additional J-Term course. Courses offered during the J-Term carry four credits, unless otherwise specified.

Grading

At the completion of all on-campus courses, some off-campus courses, and independent studies undertaken during J-Term, each student will receive one of the following letter grades:

  • A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D- = Passing grade
  • I = Incomplete (given only in special cases of illness or some other uncontrollable factor)
  • W = Official Withdrawal
  • F = Failure or Unofficial Withdrawal
  • S or U when indicated in this catalog

In some off-campus courses, students are assigned a grade of Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory at the conclusion of J-Term. Grades of "S" or "U" do not affect the grade point average. A "U" appears on the transcript as an unsuccessful completion of J-Term.

Tuition and Fees

Carthage students who are enrolled full-time for the academic year pay no additional tuition during J-Term. Off-campus study tours require a deposit (non-refundable) at the time of registration. To learn J-Term tuition fees for special/part-time students, contact the Carthage Business Office.

Withdrawals and Refunds

If a student registers for J-Term and then withdraws, no refund will be made after noon of the third day of class. The instructor determines refunds for students taking off-campus study tours.
