Telephones

Software

Background:
The college has three software titles available for faculty and staff to use on home or institution machines. They are Microsoft Office for Mac or PC, Symantec Antivirus Software for Mac or PC, and SPSS/PASW for PC. Copies of this software can be obtained from the circulation desk in the Hedberg Library.

LIS Liaison Program

Purpose:

The purpose of the liaison program is to establish an ongoing partnership with Carthage faculty and staff. This liaison will be able to find resources to answer questions and inform faculty about LIS services, programs and resources. The liaison acts as a conduit for obtaining information from the academic community regarding issues that affect services. Please look at the list below that identifies who the liaison is for your department. For questions regarding this program, please contact Chris Grugel (cgrugel@carthage.edu).

The intended goals of the program are to:

  • Identify faculty/staff perceptions and needs
  • Inform faculty/staff of college wide LIS services
  • Increase the student and faculty use of the library
  • Improve quality of the library collection

Ordering library material

Ordering is relatively easy. You may order by phone (5900 or 5910), by email (rh@carthage.edu), or in person (deliver your order request to the Library slot in the Lentz Hall mailroom, or the Circulation Desk in the Library, or to my office in Technical Services in Hedberg 142). It doesn't matter if your request is written on an Order Request Form (available in the Library), a slip of paper, or the back of an envelope!
CHOICE REVIEWS.ONLINE
In an effort to provide wider and timelier distribution, and also to be more environmentally conscious, the library has enhanced its subscription to Choice Reviews Online.

CHOICE is a general source of reviews of books, electronic media, and internet resources, which makes evaluations in terms of the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum.  Emphasis is on scholarly works, reviewed by professors and subject experts.  Where it is possible, works are compared with other titles in the same discipline. Choice Reviews Online has all the reviews found on the cards, plus the added benefits of access to an archive of over 145,000 reviews, a searchable database, and the ability to create lists of reviews for your evaluation or to email to colleagues.  Choice Reviews Online is available approximately 1-2 weeks before the cards.

The web address for Choice Reviews Online is http://www.cro2.org.  You do not need to create a login name or password unless you want to create a profile or add titles to a list.  Standard Quick search methods are available by Keyword, Author, Title, Issue, etc., in addition to, Advanced search by Subject, Readership Level, Recommendation Level, Copyright Date, Format, etc.  Help is available online or by calling Rick Hren at 5910 or email at rhren@carthage.edu.

IMPORTANT:  If you email order requests to me from Choice Reviews Online you must send email to my Internet address: rhren@carthage.edu.  It would also be helpful if you would note your name in the From line, so I know whom to notify when the items have arrived.
