The library is intended for the use of all members of the Carthage community. We are pleased to permit visitors to use various library materials and resources within the library building and to apply for borrowing privileges if they desire. The following statements outline the privileges which are extended to library visitors and the conditions under which they will be granted.
All visitors are asked to show proper identification when requested to sign in on the Guest Register at the Information Desk
Hedberg Library welcomes children as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the library unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. If unaccompanied children are found in the library, a staff member will contact campus security to report the situation and seek assistance.
Carthage community members include:
Your Carthage ID card is your library card. Special Borrower cards for visitors can be obtained in the library.
Acquiring a Special Borrower’s Card – Special Borrower’s
Card application forms are available at the Library Circulation desk. The completed form must be submitted with the
required fee of $25 to the Library Circulation Desk; cards will be available
for pick-up after three days. Benefits
are available only to the individual to whom the card is issued for one year.
Application by Minors – People under the age of 18 who wish Guest Access must have the application form signed by a parent/guardian. Carthage does not restrict access to Internet sites, videotapes, or printed materials, so parents should carefully consider whether they want their minor child to have access to the full range of Internet and library resources. Special Borrower Cards will not be issued to any minors under the age of 14.
Visitors may park in designated areas in Lots I and C.
A Special Borrower’s card may be revoked and Visitors may be denied use of library resources if the Visitor does not observe the guidelines on this document. Grounds for revocation of Visitor privileges include:
An electronic security system at the entrance serves to
protect the collection for the benefit of all users. Should the alarm be activated, library staff has the right to inspect packages or backpacks for library materials.
Theft and mutilation of library materials are, and will be, treated as serious offenses and may result in prosecution.
Neither the Library nor the College can accept responsibility for loss or theft of any personal belongings.
