Individual Technology Objective Examples
A list of examples below can also help you start brainstorming ideas for your own ITO. You will notice that the majority of these ITOs start with an "I will" statement. This is not necessary, but does reiterate the fact that you are in control of implementing and completing your ITO.
Teaching
- I will implement virtual office hours using Google Chat and Skype.
- I will assign 3 online discussions a semester in my ______ course using eRacer.
- I will use eRacer to provide my students with electronic copies of all in-class handouts.
- I will create a Camtasia video to help students better understand a difficult concept or software program.
- I will have my students keep reflective journals related to course content using Blogger.
- For my _____ course I will have students create an e-portfolio using Google Sites.
- I will start using clickers once a week to foster engagement and active learning in the classroom.
Research
- I will use Skype to conduct interviews with research participants when unable to meet face-to-face.
- I will create a user group with fellow colleagues who use a specific type of technology to undertake research. This group will meet in-person twice a semester and also communicate via a listserv.
- I will use Google Docs to work with students on their research projects and senior theses.
Productivity
- During the academic year I will use Google Docs to collaboratively work on a project with colleagues.
- I will begin using Google Calendar to coordinate departmental meetings.
- I will use the eRacer Gradebook to automatically calculate grades.
- I will set up Google Reader so that I can stay up-to-date on news stories related to my discipline and research interests.
Personal Organization
- By the end of the academic year, I will be using Google Calendar to organize my work schedule.
- I will use iFolder to backup all of my important documents related to teaching and research.
- I will use Diigo to keep track of useful websites I find.
- I will create a personal webpage using Google Sites that will house resources related to my professional life such as my CV, previous syllabi, teaching philosophy, works in progress, etc.
