“Namibia: A Sociocultural Journey” is a two-week short-term study abroad experience throughout northern Namibia.

The course meets FAR requirement and Global Heritage designation. The majority of this trip is spent camping. We will visit three Namibian National Wildlife Reserves (Waterberg Plateau, Cape Cross Seal Colony, and Etosha). We will also visit at least four traditional tribal communities and learn about their music, traditions, and culture. These tribes include the San/Bushmen, Ovambo, Himba, and Damara. While in Ovamboland, we will learn about the orphan crisis in Namibia and build a Hope Garden for one of the households receiving services from the Oonte Center for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Every day you will see and do things that you’ve never experienced before—students who’ve participated in this course in the past view their experience as life-changing.
