Carthage College: Inspiring Service

Founded in 1847 as a Lutheran College, Carthage highly values its affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Our liberal arts curriculum includes courses that explore and celebrate religion and spirituality. Faith-oriented programs and student religious organizations offer students many opportunities to strengthen their faith as they discover how they can serve others in the Church and in the world.

Worship services are offered on campus on Wednesday mornings and Sunday evenings during the school year, including an 8:45 p.m. Mass coordinated by our Roman Catholic lay minister with area priests. On Fridays, the Carthage community is invited to gather in the Fritsch Meditation Chapel for a time of stillness and contemplative prayer. Meditation is practiced today by people of many faiths and cultures. This program offers a space for quiet meditation and reflection, allowing students and faculty to retreat and refresh.

Carthage students work together to serve others through organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Carthage United to Rescue the Earth, and others.
