Join the combined Wind Orchestra and Concert Band as they present a concert on the patio between the Hedberg Library and Siebert Chapel. This year's concert is titled Tell Me a Story, and includes three delightful settings of children's stories for narrator and band. Hans Christian Andersen's Steadfast Tin Soldier, the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale Bremen Town Musicians and five of Aesop's fables are to be performed.
Carthage will host the 10th annual Lakeside Band Festival Nov. 5-6. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, the festival will feature the music of Ronald Lo Presti, one of the seminal composers of the contemporary band movement. In addition, Alvin Lowrey, Principal Trumpet Emeritus of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, will perform Kent Kennan's Sonata for Trumpet with the Carthage Wind Orchestra. Well-known works such as Lo Presti's Elegy for a Young American and Suite for Five Trumpets will be performed, as well as lesser-known compositions such as Pageant Overture, Sketch for Percussion Ensemble and Tundra.
Explore the unique sounds of Gamelan rhythms, Russian chant and Oriental melodies with these exciting works for chamber orchestra with expanded percussion sections. French masters Debussy and Ravel, noted Polish composer Henryk Gorecki, and Canadian-born Colin McPhee give an eclectic and electrifying impression of these glorious sounds from Asia.
