Central Europe for Music Lovers: Choir Tour

Choir of Carthage Alumni and Friends to tour Central Europe July 12-25

Carthage alumni and friends are invited to participate on a choir tour through Central Europe July 12-25, 2010. The tour is being organized by Richard Sjoerdsma, professor emeritus, and Peter Dennee, associate professor of music.

All ground transport will be by motor coach. The price of the trip is $3,850 per person, double occupancy. A $500 deposit is due by April 5. (Download fee schedule.)

The cost includes two meals per day (typically breakfast and lunch), roundtrip airfare from Chicago, housing, tours, and special events including attendance at a classical music performance in either Prague or Vienna.

Carthage will host a pre-tour rehearsal Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, for tour participants. Meals and housing will be covered by the Office of Alumni Relations. There will be two days of intense rehearsal prior to our departure. Print music and rehearsal CDs will be distributed ahead of these rehearsals.

The planned itinerary:

Day 1 — Monday, July 12
Overnight flight to Hanover, Germany

Day 2 — Tuesday, July 13
Morning arrival. Depart for a welcome and tour of Kenosha Sister City, Wolfenbüttel.

Day 3 — Wednesday, July 14
Tour of Hanover and German forests (Naturpark). Evening concert in Wolfenbüttel.

Day 4 — Thursday, July 15
Drive to Dresden with a tour of Leipzig along the way. Evening in Dresden.

Day 5 — Friday, July 16
Depart Dresden for Prague. Tour of Prague.

Day 6 — Saturday, July 17
Free day in Prague (various tours of interest provided). Evening concert in Prague.

Day 7 — Sunday, July 18
Depart Prague for Český Krumlov.

Day 8 — Monday, July 19
Free day in Český Krumlov (various tours of interest provided). Evening concert in Český Krumlov.

Day 9 — Tuesday, July 20
Depart Český Krumlov for Vienna. Stops along the way include a tour of Mauthausen (WWII concentration camp) and tour of Melk Monastery.

Day 10 — Wednesday, July 21
Free day in Vienna (various tours of interest provided).

Day 11 — Thursday, July 22
Depart Vienna for Velke Bilovice. Tour Lednice. Evening concert in Slavkov (formerly the German city Austerlitz).

Day 12 — Friday, July 23
Free day in Brno (various tours of interest provided). Afternoon concert in Breclav. Moravian evening in legendary Knights of Templar wine cellar.

Day 13 — Saturday, July 24
Depart Velke Bilovice for Prague. Tour Renaissance era castle. Farewell dinner in Prague.

Day 14 — Sunday, July 25
Depart for home with many fond memories of time spent making music and traveling with old and new friends throughout Central Europe.

Fee Schedule:

$500 deposit due by April 5. (Deposit may be refunded prior to April 1.)
$1,425 payment due by April 30.
$1,925 balance due by May 31.
Travel insurance available at time of registration.
