Recent Carthage graduate Nick Demske, winner of 2009's Fence Books first book prize, and new adjunct professor Caryl Pagel will read from their poetry at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Niemann Media Theatre in Hedberg Library.
Nick Demske was awarded the Fence Books Modern Poets Series award for a self-titled manuscript that will be published in fall 2010. He lives in Racine, Wis., and works at the Racine Public Library. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Action Yes, Sawbuck, Artful Dodge, Conduit, Weirddeer, Make and the Bathroom Magazine, among other places. Caryl Pagel's chapbook, "Visions, Crisis Apparitions, and Other Exceptional Experiences," was published by Factory Hollow Press. Her poems, essays, experiments and investigations have appeared in 1913: A Journal of Forms, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, The New Orleans Review, Octopus Magazine, Parcel, and Thermos, among other journals. She currently lives in Milwaukee, just a few blocks from Woodland Pattern, and is co-editor and publisher of the newly established Rescue Press. Caryl is also a new adjunct instructor of creative writing here at Carthage.
