Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 1924 in South Dakota and now has more than 600 active chapters across the country, with more than 7,000 active members annually. The organization strives to enrich the lives of others through English literary traditions, and recognizes professional writers throughout the country.
The Carthage chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is very active. The group organizes field trips, parties and book clubs, as well as the English major's Chapbook readings for those students earning an emphasis in creative writing. The chapter meets to promote and involve members in literature, poetry and theater.
Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is based on credit for classes in the English program and a member’s grade point average. It's a wonderful way to become more involved in the Carthage community and make connections with scholars across the nation.
