Lecture: "Growing a Second Language: Barriers, Real and Imagined"

September 20, 2010

Dr. Wayne O'Neil, a professor of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will present a lecture titled "Growing a Second Language: Barriers, Real and Imagined" at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Hedberg Library’s Niemann Media Theatre.

The lecture is sponsored by the Modern Language Department and the Humanities Division.

How are second languages acquired, and how can research about this acquisition process help teachers? This presentation will address questions about adult language learners and the ways that linguistic theory can inform classroom practice.
