Connie Wolfe featured in Chicago's "Art Loop Open"

October 13, 2010

Connie Wolfe, an adjunct professor of art at Carthage, has been selected to participate in Chicago's first Art Loop Open, a month-long interactive public art exhibit at 10 venues throughout Chicago’s Loop.

Ms. Wolfe's drawing Daybreak was one of nearly 200 accepted for the exhibit, out of almost 800 entries. It will be on view at the Merchandise Mart.

The Art Loop Open kicks off with an Art Crawl on Friday, Oct. 15, and continues through Nov. 12.

The jury included Susan Aurinko, former director of Flatfile Galleries and an independent curator; Theaster Gates, director of arts development at the University of Chicago; Mary Jane Jacob, School of the Art Institute, author and curator; and Tricia Van Eck, associate curator of the Museum of Contemporary Arts.

Visitors to the exhibit can vote for their favorite pieces, and the top three artists will win $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000. Voting will take place in two rounds. Round one is Oct. 15-22. On Oct. 22, the 10 pieces with the most votes will be announced. Round two will then take place Oct. 22-29. Other awards will also be announced on Oct. 29, including four solo exhibitions to be selected by loop galleries. Visit the Art Loop Open's web site to learn more about how to vote.
