Carthage's 2011 Spring Reading Series will feature seven amazing authors and poets. Writers include former Carthage graduate Nick Demske, Duriel Harris, Lisa Fishman, Brian Mornar, Karl Gurtang, Chuck Stebelton and Sara Mumolo. With a diverse offering of writers, the Spring Reading Series has something for everyone.
Feb. 10 — Nick Demske and Duriel Harris
7 p.m., Niemann Media Theatre
Nick Demske graduated from Carthage in 2006 and now lives in Racine, Wis. His self-titled manuscript was selected by Joyelle McSweeney for the 2010 Fence Modern Poets Series prize and was published in November 2010. Ms. Harris is the author of Drag (Elixir Press, 2003) and Amnesiac: Poems (Sheep Meadow Press, 2010). Read more.
Feb. 22 — Lisa Fishman and Brian Mornar
5 p.m., Niemann Media Theatre
Lisa Fishman is the author of four works of poetry including Current, The Happiness Experiment, Dear, Read and The Deep Heart’s Core Is a Suitcase. Her latest work, Flowercart, will be published later this spring. Brian Mornar is the author of Repatterning and Three American Letters.
March 8 — Karl Gartung and Chuck Stebelton
5 p.m., Niemann Media Theatre
Karl Gartung is the author of Memory Has Become So Important. He has also collaborated with Elizabeth Robinson on a privately printed chapbook, Speak. Chuck Stebelton is the author of Circulation Flowers. Recent print objects and chapbooks include 'Tis, A Maximal Object, Flags and Banners, and Precious Newer writing appears in The Cultural Society, Lungfull!, and Kadar Koli. Collaborative work includes Fuel for Constant Light with Cindy Loehr, and more recently a series of Writing Machine poems with Cynthia Gray.
April 14 — Sara Mumolo
7 p.m., Niemann Media Theatre
Sara Mumolo is a poetry editor for Omnidawn. Her poems have appeared in Action Yes, 1913: a journal of forms, Typo, The Offending Adam, Real Poetik and Eleven Eleven, among others. Her chapbook March will published by Cannibal Books in Spring of 2011.
All events will be held in Niemann Theater. Refreshments will be served following the readings. There will be time to talk with the writers.
