Students interested in doing research at Carthage over the summer can learn more about the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience program at a special event Monday, March 7.

A Research Roundtable will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Niemann Media Theatre of Hedberg Library. Professors will give brief presentations about their research interests and answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
The SURE program offers students the opportunity to spend 10 weeks working full time with a faculty mentor on a significant research project. Students receive a stipend of approximately $2,750, plus room and board. All first- through third-year science and math majors are eligible to apply for a SURE fellowship.
Research projects include:
Prof. Sarah Rubinfeld (Environmental Science): The Environmental Fate of Personal Care Products in Aquatic Systems
Prof. Mark Mahoney (Computer Science): Software Evolution and the Moving Picture Metaphor
Prof. Walter Smith (Chemistry): Investigation of Nuclear-Spin Isotope Effects in Organotin Compounds
Prof. Deanna Byrnes (Biology): Local Bat Ecology
Prof. Dana Garrigan (Biology): Butterfly Conservation: An Interdisciplinary Approach
Prof. Janice Pellino (Chemistry): Goldilocks and the Small Bacterial RNAs
Prof. Kevin Crosby (Physics and Computer Science): Microgravity Research
