A new exhibit in Hedberg Library will explore the step-by-step process of creating art for graphic novels. "The Art of Process" will be on the first floor of Hedberg March 22-May 31.
By Sara VaronThe exhibit follows the journey of Matt Holm, graphic novel illustrator of the Babymouse series, and Sara Varon, graphic novel illustrator of Robot Dreams and Chicken and Cat. Through their personal sketch books, editor's notes and publisher galleys, the art process will be revealed from the sketchbook to the bookshelf.
The Babymouse series by illustrator Matt Holm has won multiple Children's Choice awards, was named an ALA Notable Children's Book, received the 2006 Gryphon Award, and received the 2006 New York Book Show Award.
Robot Dreams by Sara Varon was named an ALSC Notable Children's Book, YALSA Great Graphic Novel for Teens, NYPL Book for Reading and Sharing, and Kirkus Best Book of the Year. Robot Dreams has also been honored by NCTE Notable Children's Books in the Language Arts, and Books for the Teen Age, New York Public Library. It received the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books Blue Ribbon Award and was named one of Publishers Weekly's Best Children's Books of the Year.
A special Artist's Talk with Sara Varon will be held from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Monday, April 18, in Clausen Center 106. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.
