Writer and Carthage alumna Miya Kressin, author of The Changeling's Champion, will speak on campus at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Todd Wehr Center, Room 128A. She will talk about writing, getting published, and not giving up on your dreams. After her presentation, she will answer questions and sign copies of her book. Refreshments will be served.

Ms. Kressin graduated from Carthage in 2002 with a degree in religion and a minor in psychology. She has been writing for as long as she can remember. She spent a few years working an 8-to-5 job before rediscovering her interest in writing by crafting oral stories and fantasy worlds for her young children. She put pen to paper to preserve those stories, discovered an online community of amateur writers and readers, and resumed writing the stories she had dreamed about for years. Most of her stories are available on FanFiction.net and the The Writer's Coffee Shop Library under the penname "fiberkitty."
Ms. Kressin is also an avid fiber artist, a hobby she enjoys with her husband. A stay-at-home mother to three daughters in Kenosha, she enjoys spinning, knitting, weaving, crocheting and lace-making. Her educational background and experiences heavily influence her fictional writing.
In "The Changeling's Champion," 20-year-old Holly Harton loses the one person she thought she could count on. Finding her boyfriend of five years in the arms of another woman — on her birthday no less — set her feet on a new path. She turned to her studies for a distraction and began living in a fantasy world of half-remembered dreams. She never thought Ari Kent, a new student in her statistics class, could bring those dreams to light with the gift of a simple pen.

A'Ruairi Kentigern was 12 years old when his entire life was thrown out of balance. Nephew to the High Lord of the Seleighe Court, the young prince had just met the mate he was fated to be with when an Unseleighe raid stole her away. For 200 years, he sought to be reunited with Shaela, his soul's twin.
In Holly, Ari has found his Shaela. In Ari, Holly has found a link to the world she thought only existed in dreams. If Ari can gain Holly's trust and show her the world she comes from, will she open her heart to him? Two Unseleighe nobles stand ready to block their path. Blood will certainly be shed as Ari and Holly fight to forge a new faerie tale. Has this young changeling found her heart's champion?
