Actor John O'Hurley, best known for his role as the quirky J. Peterman on Seinfeld and for his performance on Dancing With the Stars, will speak at Carthage on Monday, April 18. The event will be held at 7 p.m. in A. F. Siebert Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.
Mr. O'Hurley is in the prime of his career as an actor, author, musician and entrepreneur. He has entertained and motivated thousands with his hilarious and deeply personal memoir The Peterman Guide to the Extraordinary Life, in which he outlines signposts for an authentic and more purposeful life based on a single statement that was made to him more than 20 years ago. He comes to Carthage to share his insights on how to imagine an extraordinary life, and how to transform those dreams into reality.
Mr. O'Hurley carved his way into American pop culture in both television and film. On Seinfeld, he played the wildly eccentric, fictionalized version of catalog-company entrepreneur John Peterman from 1995 to 1998, and won a Screen Actor's Guild Award for the role. He became one of America's most popular game show hosts with To Tell the Truth and Family Feud. He starred on Broadway in such hits as Chicago and Spamalot. He is the voice of more than a dozen popular animated characters for such shows as SpongeBob and Family Guy. In 2005, he was a favorite contestant, and ultimate champion, on the first season of the TV show Dancing with the Stars.
He is the author of two books: It's Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump (2006, New York Times Best Seller) and Before Your Dog Can Eat Your Homework, First You Have to Do It (2007). He is also a private venture capitalist and frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg Network and Fox Business Channel. He is part-owner of the real J. Peterman Company, the subject of his Seinfeld parody, and co-founder of the new sustainable energy company Energy-Inc.
