Chicago Gamelan Ensemble to perform at Carthage

The Chicago Gamelan Ensemble will perform at Carthage at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in Wartburg Auditorium, located in the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Natural Sciences.

This percussion orchestra performs diverse repertoire, ranging from traditional Javanese compositions to contemporary works. The ensemble has performed at many of Chicago's landmark venues, including the Art Institute, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Field Museum, Millennium Park and Shedd Aquarium.  

The Chicago Gamelan Ensemble is part of Friends of the Gamelan Inc., a not-for-profit Illinois corporation dedicated to the instruction and performance of gamelan music. Friends of the Gamelan Inc. was formed in 1980. 

The Asian Studies Program and Global Heritage are sponsoring the event.
