Free concert by Grammy Award winners

June 9, 2011

The King's Singers, a Grammy Award-winning sextet, will present a free concert June 13 in Carthage's A.F. Siebert Chapel. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include poetry readings by Ruth O'Callaghan, a leading British poet. There will be a free reception with the singers and Dr. O'Callaghan immediately following the concert.

The King's Singers are a British a capella ensemble formed in 1968 by six students at King's College, Cambridge. They perform about 125 concerts each year, mostly in Europe, the United States and the Far East. Ruth O'Callaghan is a Hawthornden Fellow, a prize-winning poet at international events, and a book reviewer and adjudicator in England.

Parking is free and available on campus. Carthage security personnel will help direct guests for parking. Drop-off is available at the Chapel. Limited parking will be available on Campus Drive.

The concert is sponsored by the 31st World Congress of Poets and the Hal Leonard Corp. in collaboration with Carthage College, as a pre-congress event. The 31st World Congress of Poets will be held in Kenosha Aug. 28-31; Wisconsin Dells Sept. 1-2; and Minneapolis Sept. 3-4.
