Learn how to communicate visually, or just how to better understand visual media, at Rosebud Institute's third Summer Series June 18-22, 2012.

"Media and the Moving Image" teaches the basics of screen media literacy and how to apply those skills in a variety of settings. The program is aimed at educators but also appeals to professionals looking to hone their screen media proficiency, and anyone interested in simple digital filmmaking and appropriate communication on the web. Participants develop screen communication skills by creating short movies and building simple ePortfolios.
Rosebud, a joint initiative of Carthage's Communication and Digital Media Department and the Office of Adult Education, will also offer the second season of its Screen Media Boot Camp during the second week of July. This one-week overnight camp aimed at students ages 13-17 teaches the secrets of the "big screen" — and the small. Students get behind the camera, set up a basic website and bring their creative ideas to life to share with the world. They work side by side with media professionals and get an edge in today's world of YouTube, Facebook, and the Internet.
"Our culture requires that we know spoken media, that we know written media, and now it demands that we know screen media. In order to thrive in this screen-based world, we must begin to teach and learn the proper way to communicate through the screen," says Paul Chilsen, founder of the Rosebud Institute and chair of Carthage's Communication and Digital Media Department.
Both programs will be held on the Carthage campus. College credits may be earned, at the normal Carthage graduate or undergraduate per-credit rates. Not for credit options will also be available. Registration for both programs will start in early 2012, and space is limited.
