The St. Louis Crew (from left) Scott Hegrenes (faculty), Mia Spaid, Janice Pellino (faculty), Audrey Henning, Adam Glover, Laura Taylor, Ellie Kendl, Chris GoldsmithCarthage students and faculty attended the Midstates Science and Math Consortium Undergraduate Research Symposium in Biological Sciences and Psychology. The consortium took place Oct. 28-30 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Six Carthage students — Elizabeth Kendl, '13; Christopher Goldsmith, '12; Audrey Henning, '12; Laura Taylor, '13; Adam Glover, '12; and Mia Spaid, '13 — presented their research at the symposium, visited the St. Louis Arch, and explored the City Museum in St. Louis.
Mia Spaid, '13, of Wildwood, Ill., presents her research, "Spider family diversity and composition as ecological indicators of environmental quality."
Adam Glover, '12, of Eureka, Mo., presents his research, "Designing a long-term monitoring program to assess invasive species in a lake's riparian zone in Kenosha County, Wis.
Laura Taylor, '13, of La Mesa, Calif., presents her research, "The over-expression of the RNA 'Goldilocks' and its effect on the bacteria Escherichia coli."
Audrey Henning, '12, of Johnston, Iowa, presents her research, "The cloning and expression of C. thermocellum cellulases in E. coli
Christopher Goldsmith, '12, of Plainfield, Ill., presents his research, "Monitoring invasive terrestrial plants along stream outlets in Kenosha County, Wis."
Elizabeth Kendl, '13, of Racine, Wis., presents her research, "Interaction between the small non-coding RNA C0293 and Hfq and HU Proteins."
