Special Martin Luther King Jr. Service to be held Jan. 16

Carthage will hold a special memorial worship service at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, to celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The service will be held in A. F. Siebert Chapel.

Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Lawrence Kirby, pastor of Second Baptist Church of Kenosha. The service will also feature performances by the Carthage Gospel Messengers choir and the new Chapel Praise Band; remarks by the Rev. Janice Cummings, pastor of Coleman Chapel AME Church in Kenosha; and student readers.

While a freewill offering to support the ministry of Second Baptist Church of Kenosha will be solicited, this event is free and open to the public. The celebration is one of several planned throughout the local community as part of Kindness Week.
