Wind Orchestra selected to perform at state convention

January 9, 2012

The Carthage Wind Orchestra has been selected to perform Jan. 21 at the 2012 Wisconsin state convention of the National Band Association in Wisconsin Rapids. The 60-minute concert will be given at the Hotel Mead, site of the convention. The Wind Orchestra was selected from recordings submitted from college/university, adult, or military bands. Only one group each year is invited to perform.

Music to be performed at the concert will showcase the flexibility and versatility of the top instrumentalists at Carthage. The program will include a sizable portion of works for the full band, but also include several selections for a smaller wind ensemble with string instruments. Among these works are selections from Kurt Weill's A Little Threepenny Music and Panamanian Suite, and a portion of William Walton's Façade.

The Wisconsin chapter of the NBA is the largest and most active in any state. According to the organization’s website, "The National Band Association is the largest band directors' professional organization in the world. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music."
