The Carthage Red Hots took two first-place awards at the Universal Dance Association Chicagoland Dance Championship on Saturday, Jan. 21. The competition was held at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Red Hots competed in only two categories — Jazz and Poms — and took first prize in both.

The Red Hots Spirit Team has 18 members; 14 members perform each routine. Amy Carter is the head coach; Kristin Pirazzini is the assistant coach.
The dance routine that the team performed in the Poms competition was choreographed by Danielle Lamoregese, ’13, an education major from Woodridge, Ill.; and Ally Dahms, '13, an education major from Freeport, Ill. The dance routine that the team performed in the Jazz Competition was professionally choreographed.
The UDA Chicagoland Dance Championships are held every year, bringing together high school and college dance teams from across the Midwest and Canada.
