Every semester at Carthage, the Philosophy Club invites professors to give a presentation on a book that changed their way of thinking. Founded in 2009, the popular lecture series is called "The Book That Changed My Life." Speakers have occasionally tweaked the lecture format to fit their field of study, speaking instead about a piece of music or theatre that changed them.
In past lectures, Great Ideas and classics professor Joseph McAlhany spoke on Plato's Phaedrus; Pastor Harvard Stephens spoke about Holmes' Joy Unspeakable: Contemplative Practices of the Black Church; and economics professor Yuri Maltsev spoke on Hayek's Road to Serfdom. Music professor Dimitri Shapovalov spoke about the music that changed his life.
The Book That Changed My Life lecture series are held in Clausen Center 106. Admission is free. All are welcome.
