Paul Hegland has served as the Special Assistant to the President at Carthage since 1991. During that time, he has taken on increasing responsibilities at the College. He oversees the work of the six Advisory Committees operating at Carthage; he is assistant secretary of the Board of Trustees of the College; and he serves as liaison between the Board and members of the faculty and staff.
Mr. Hegland came to Carthage from the Ravinia Festival, where he had served on the development staff for a number of years.
Born in 1960 in Sioux City, Iowa, he received his B.Mus. degree from Iowa State University, and his M.Mus. from Northwestern University.
Mr. Hegland is an active member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, serving as Kantor and Chairman of the Board of Elders. He previously served four and one-half years as chairman of the congregation. From January 1999 through August 2004, he served on the Board for Higher Education (BHE) of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The BHE is the Synod's governing board for the church's higher education mission, and doubles as the Board of Regents for the Concordia University System, representing the LC-MS's ten Concordia colleges and universities across the country.
Mr. Hegland is a member of the City of Kenosha Plan Commission, and a director of of the Kenosha Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also serves the community as treasurer of the Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Kenosha. In addition, he formerly served as a director of the Kenosha Symphony Association and the Education Foundation of Kenosha, and as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Music Department at Iowa State University.
His main avocational interests are his family and music. He and his wife, Christa Reuning Hegland, have two children: Anna Lydia, and Peter Timothy.
