Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in psychological science. We strive to introduce students to five core areas of research in our field: biological basis of behavior; cognitive processes; development across the life span; behavior within social context; and abnormal behavior. We place a strong emphasis on learning the research methods that are used in these areas. Most psychology majors participate in collecting and analyzing data during their time at Carthage.
Carthage psychology faculty provide many opportunities for research experience. Projects currently underway with human subjects involve visual perception and olfaction during pregnancy. Research in the Carthage rat lab involves animal models of early natal drug exposure and stress disorders. We also offer field work opportunities for those students who wish to experience the application of psychology in the community.
Nationally, the majority of psychology majors do not pursue careers directly related to the science of psychology. However, the skills and knowledge learned in the psychology major tend to be applicable in many diverse opportunities after graduation. Regardless of what you plan to do with a psychology major, we believe that we provide a high quality traditional psychology curriculum with hands on experiences.
We hope you will choose psychology
at Carthage. If you have any questions please feel free to contact
any one of us in the department.
