This course will give students the opportunity to explore music through listening, reacting and creating. Together they will listen to music and talk about their personal reactions. They will express themselves through simple movement and dance, through basic rhythmic exercises (tapping, clapping and drumming), through simple vocal exercises (humming, whistling, chanting and singing), and by playing musical instruments. In addition to structured exercises, each participant will be encouraged to create her or his own original movements, lyrics, rhythms and melodies. Parents will be invited to a final performance.
Note: Participants can bring musical instruments that they may already have some experience with, and/or they will have the opportunity to learn about and experiment with some simple instruments (flutes, kazoos, keyboards, and drums) that will be available to them. Enrollment will be limited to 10 participants. This course requires an additional $25 materials fee.
