Patricia Beal

Resource Teacher at Edward Bain School of Language and Art, Kenosha

While Patricia Beal has spent the last 13 years teaching in Kenosha, she has also taught in Texas, New York, Florida, and overseas. Throughout her career she has had the opportunity to teach grades Pre-K through 8. Currently she enjoys working with children in grades K-5, focusing on reading and writing across all content areas. Pat earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from SUNY Cortland and her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University.

Susan Blust

ESL/German/International Education Consultant

For many years, Susan has taught beginner-level German to adolescents in the community and at the corporate level, as well as English as a Second Language to children. She has extensive work experience in both international education and business. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a Bachelor of Arts with majors in German Language and Civilization and Business Administration and a minor in Psychology from Carthage.

Melissa Caira

Sign Language Instructor

Melissa Caira has a Master of Arts and Teaching from National-Louis University. She is a former teacher who has taken some time off to enjoy her children as they grow up. She enjoys spending time with her family, teaching sign language classes, and volunteering. Melissa is looking forward to offering a sign language class that will include reading, art and music.

Lisa Cinelli

Instructor at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Lisa Cinelli has a Master of Arts in Illustration from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a painter, children’s book author/illustrator, and teaching artist. She has taught children’s book illustration at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for almost 20 years; teaches grades 6-12 at Marwen Institute, a Chicago-based arts program serving the underserved; leads workshops teaching teachers materials and techniques used in picture book illustration; and has conducted writing, illustrating and printmaking workshops for high school students through the Chicago Botanic Garden. Her clients include Cricket Magazine Group, Holiday House, Bebop Books and Harcourt Brace Publishers. Lou Ann Daniels

Math Resource Teacher at Frank Elementary School, Kenosha

In addition to her regular teaching position, Lou Ann also teaches math methods in the evening at Carthage. She is also the author of Foam Number Math, fun match activities that reinforce math concepts taught in the classroom. Lou Ann has been working with children and adults for 25 years and still loves sharing her passion for math.

Emily Luck

Art Teacher at Carollton Elementary School, Oak Creek

Emily Luck has worked with elementary students for the past seven years. In her free time, she freelances murals. She earned her Master of Education degree at Carthage in 2005. Emily brings an energy and enthusiasm to her classroom to share her love of art with children.

Robert Maleske

Professor of Psychology at Carthage

Robert Maleske earned his Ph.D. and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology from Northwestern University, where he specialized in studying the psychology of learning. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at DePaul University. Bob has been teaching at Carthage since 1974 but has also spent many years studying music and occasionally performing and conducting workshops. He is passionate about teaching and about music. He is enthused about this opportunity to help your children find their own unique way of expressing themselves through music.

Sergio Salazar

Target Language Expert for Spanish at Carthage

Sergio Salazar is from Columbia, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. He has taught languages such as French, Italian, and English at a variety of locations, and most recently, Spanish here at Carthage while pursuing his Master of Education degree. His thesis topic reveals the intricacies of implementing graphic novels in a classroom setting as a way of fostering reading interaction. He enjoys working with students in different stages of learning and loves sharing his passion for languages.

Miguel Ángel Santos

Target Language Expert for Spanish at Carthage

Miguel Ángel Santos is from Salamanca, Spain. He earned his bachelor's degree in English and Spanish from the University of Salamanca. There he taught English as a second language in high school. Last year, he worked as a dual immersion sixth grade teacher in Fairfield, Calif., where he taught in English and Spanish. He is currently teaching Spanish at Carthage while working on a Master of Education degree. Miguel is excited to be in the States doing what he enjoys the most in life: combining traveling, languages, culture sharing and teaching.

Karin Sconzert

Associate Professor of Education at Carthage

Karin teaches courses for secondary teachers at Carthage, including methods of teaching Social Studies. She has been a middle school history and drama teacher at Forest Ridge Academy (Indiana) and Princeton Day School (New Jersey), as well as a computer teacher at the Laboratory Schools of the University of Chicago (where she earned her Ph.D.) and the Latin School of Chicago. She has also worked as a professional costume designer for Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and managed the costume shop at her alma mater, Lawrence University in Appleton. Karin loves making art, including costumes, pottery, and edible art in the form of elaborately decorated cakes and cookies.
