Zeta Mu chapter of Phi Alpha

Social Work Honorary Fraternity

Eager to promote a closer bond among students of social work and to enter into more intimate fellowship with those dedicated to the promotion of humanitarian goals and ideals by a professional group for which quality educational preparation is deemed imperative, students and faculty in social work education at Carthage College resolve to sponsor a Chapter of Phi Alpha National Honor Society, thereby to foster high standards of education for social work and to invite into membership those who have attained excellence of scholarship and distinction of achievement as students of social work.

Membership

An undergraduate student is eligible for active membership after achieving the National minimal requirements and meeting local Chapter requirements:

  • Declared social work major
  • Achieved sophomore status
  • Completed at least 8 credit hours of designated social work courses
  • Achieved overall GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Achieved a 3.5 GPA in required major courses
  • Students cannot be enrolled in more than 2 semesters as a part-time student
  • Must obtain a high level of moral character and uphold the values of the social work profession in high esteem

Activities

  • Potted flowers for local hospice patients
  • Walk for Eunice Boyer, the founder of the Social Work Program
  • Sponsored Graduate School Night
  • Halloween Party for children at local homeless shelter
  • Shalom Center Walk for Hunger
  • Domestic Violence Awareness Posters — made posters for Domestic Violence Awareness Rally held by local shelter
  • Holiday Fundraiser — raised money for Racine families for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays
